Our goal as a vocational training centre is to empower intellectually disabled adolescents and adults by providing training in basic life skills, which include literacy and numeracy.
The promotion of appropriate social and personal skills, behavioural norms and work ethics give our members the self confidence to achieve sheltered employment opportunities outside the centre or in the many in-house income generating projects.
Vocational Training
Craft sessions
Our detailed craft and beading sessions are designed to enhance social engagement and vital sensorimotor skills, including hand-eye coordination. Responsibilities are tailored to each member’s unique strengths, fostering a sense of purpose and achievement.
Weekly art sessions
Weekly art sessions are fun and varied. These hand puppets were made to help express feelings, enhance social skills and peer interaction.
Social skills
Shared tea and lunch breaks offer essential opportunities for members to build meaningful friendships and develop peer-to-peer social skills. Our community integration is further enriched through seasonal markets and celebratory events throughout the year.
Sunshine Zimbabwe Project Carpentry
Our Members enjoy their carpentry sessions weekly producing items for sale. These are made from recycled wooden pallets and the finished products bring great satisfaction and a feeling of self worth.
Literacy & Numeracy
The Members have a one on one session with a volunteer teacher. They are taught with literacy and numeracy programs to enhance their life skills. These skills empower students to make meaning, think critically and creatively, and reach their full potential.
Gardening
Members actively participate in vocational gardening projects, learning to cultivate a variety of plants and vegetables. This sustainable initiative supports our culinary program and provides produce for community sales.
Community
In gratitude for the incredible support our organization receives, our members proudly dedicate time to creating items for other charities in need. Contributing to the wider community provides a deeply rewarding and empowering experience for everyone involved.
Pottery
We are delighted to introduce pottery to our curriculum. This new vocational skill offers exciting opportunities for artistic expression, patience, and technical mastery as our members explore a fresh creative medium.
Cooking
Twice a week, members prepare communal lunches, gaining practical life skills through meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking. We are regularly supported by volunteer professional chefs, who bring specialized expertise and inspiration to our kitchen.
Exercise
Physical well-being and mobility are vital aspects of our program. Members engage in regular fitness routines, inclusive dance sessions, and sports like tennis. We also organize community excursions to local school grounds for recreational games, offering valuable opportunities for external social interaction and community engagement.

Volunteer
We take many volunteers from a range of backgrounds, from student attachments to gap year pupils and individuals wanting to make more of their spare time. Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back and also gain valuable knowledge of the special education community. As a volunteer, you can become an important part in advocating for change and acceptance within our society for children and adults with learning disabilities.
